No Debt, No Credit, No Problems – What I Do, Why I Do it & What’s to Come

Can we be honest here? You are listening to a show about personal finances. Why? I can promise you it isn’t because of the humor or my good looks. You are here because you want to do this “money thing” better – and I’m right there with you! I want you to learn what it has taken me a decade to realize: That you can live with “No Debt, No Credit, and No Problems”.

Are you ready to get started? C’mon. Take my hand. Let’s go. I have been an Ambassador of Personal Finance for many years. My history takes us back to 2007 when I first started coaching people. The teachings of Dave Ramsey, a popular radio host who teaches personal finance, had been ringing in my head for a few years. I had spent a lot of time learning, researching, and scrutinizing certain facets of the world of Personal Finance. I also found much of what the average American needs to know about money is in the Bible.

Being a born-again Christian for most of my life, it was important for me to take lessons learned from Jesus’s parables and the scriptures to sculpt a life more in line with my faith. There was a conflict between good, honest, common sense financial principles and what I would hear from experts on TV and the pre-approved credit card offers I received in my mailbox every day.

Introductory Rites – Our Podcast Launches…

Welcome to “A Priest and a Bishop Walk into a Story.”   The Bishop – is Frank Krebs, Presiding of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion and is an avid cyclist and builder of model trains. The Priest? That’s Jessica Gazzola, a priest in the Ecumenical Catholic Communion and a mom of three little ones who spend as much time as possible outside with her family. You’ve found your way into an ongoing conversation on progressive Catholic life. In this first episode, we’d like to set the stage for what’s to come this season. We call this episode “Introductory Rites” because in this hour we hope to:

— Begin to prepare a space for people to share their stories.
— Share why we think conversations about faith and religion even have a place in our lives.
— And we want you to get to know us, your hosts, better. In this first show, we’ll spend more time than usual sharing our ideas and stories.

Please indulge us and we’ll allow more time for unique voices and points of view in future episodes. We all have moments when we’re introduced to a person or an idea or a place that changes the course of our story. We can become blinded by our routines, but the truth is we never know when our story might suddenly change. Frank and I were once strangers; we were once strangers to Catholicism outside of the Roman Catholic Church. We’ll introduce our personal stories inside this episode.  We’ll share how we met and how we

Jessica is an ordained priest in the Ecumenical Catholic Communion.
She is a mother to three kids who keep her busy and who remind her what it means to be human in a spiritual world.

Jessica grew up in the Roman Catholic Church and was powerfully influenced by its Sacraments and various strains of mysticism. She attended Marquette University and there the Jesuits helped ground her faith in reason and social justice. Jessica received her Masters of Divinity at an ecumenical seminary, Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, where she was exposed to the wider world of Christianity. After Seminary she served the community of Sts. Clare & Francis as their Associate Pastor for seven years. Lately, Jessica has pulled back from her busy life in the parish to parent and dive deeper into her soul through projects like writing, gardening, cooking, and podcasting.

Francis “Frank” Krebs served as a Roman Catholic priest in St. Louis, MO until 1990. He has been with his spouse, Art Maines, since 1998. Frank felt called back into ministry and joined the Ecumenical Catholic Communion (ECC) in 2005 after working for 15 years at a large behavioral health company as director of training and organizational development. Frank was, in that same year, a founding pastor of Sts. Clare & Francis ECC community in St. Louis, MO, where he continues to serve. In October of 2014, Frank was elected and consecrated to serve as Presiding Bishop of the ECC—“Bishop Francis”; since the ECC is a member communion, Bishop Francis also serves on the governing board of the National Council of Churches.

Star Trek (2009) – A Perspective Review

On September 8, 1966, the world was introduced to the world of phasers, photon torpedoes, the United Federation of Planets, and the captaincy of one James Tiberius Kirk. Since then, Star Trek has not only become one of the most popular properties worldwide, but has become a piece of language lexicon, cinema history and for many – a veritable way of life. In 2009, Hollywood beamed a new, younger cast into pieces of the original Star Trek universe to build an all-new series of chronicles on the silver screen that truly do pay homage to the original series, but stand boldly on their own. Set phasers for STUNNING, as you lock down the inertial dampeners so as to not be knocked from your seatbelt-less chair as we engage the warp drive during this Perspective Review of STAR TREK (2009), directed by J.J. Abrams. Remember to open hailing frequencies and be sure to tell us what you think!

FLASH ACTION MESSAGE FROM The Sweet Dreams Pillow Project HQ!

2017 continues to power through! To date, our Sweet Dreams Pillow Project is proud to have made more than 12,000 pillows to date, that have arrived in the tiny hands of the children of those serving across the globe, from every single branch of the United States Military.

Our evacuartion from our home means that we’re putting pillow production on hold, but – do not worry! Just as the sun will shine soon, so will the sweet miles of your children who receive their pillows!

Stop back again soon and as always, our thanks to all of the volunteers that make this project continue to make a difference in the lives of children – but more importantly – our thanks to ALL of you serving bravely in The United States Military. We have so much appreciation for you, your efforts and for the sacrifices you and your families make to make freedom ring.

Twister (1996) – A Perspective Review

Tornadoes: We’ll likely never experience on in real life and for that, we can consider ourselves lucky. In 1996, masses across North America were given, Twister, directed by Jon De Bon, starting a cavalcade of Hollywood’s brightest, up and coming actors who have all had literal windfalls since back then. What was also given to us was a portal into the “inside of a storm”, the action around it, and the details that just might help YOU if the skies go green, ice rains from the sky and everyone loses their minds as the whine of tornado sirens pierce the skies. When all others around you are losing their minds, we hope that you’ll remember the details, information and weather GEEKERY that is captured inside THIS podcast, the Perspective Review of Twister, 1993 directed by Jon De Bon. A Crash Course In Horror Part 1

When it comes to tracing the roots of the horror genre, one need not look any further than their local library. The foundation of everything we know and love about horror can be found in the pages of some of the greatest literary works. It’s also no surprise that most of the classic horror films are based off of those outstanding works. If not for the imaginations of long dead writers, we would not be blessed with the films of the early twentieth century. And if not for the brilliance of those early filmmakers, we would not have the likes of Freddy, Jason or Michael on our movie screens. Literature feeds into film and film feeds into literature. Inspiration, imagination and terror… Mmmm, a recipe horror fans can savor. Step on up to the buffet of butchery as we serve a double helping of horrific history on 2GuysTalking Horror!

What is 2GuysTalkingHorror?

It is a genre that transcends age, sex, color and culture. It can be found in literature, art, music, and film all over the world. Whether it’s located in the blade of an all too real attacker or the razor clawed glove of a sadistic dream demon, the end result is the same…Horror! The mounting tension as we page through the newest Stephen King novel. Our grip tightening on the arms of our seats because we know a jump scare is imminent. The feeling of dread and anticipation we get from hearing two little notes “Da Dum”, knowing our hungry villain is near. Why does Horror give us such a thrill? Why are so many fans torn between what makes up good horror and bad horror? Can one man’s passion for the Horror genre change the worlds narrow perspective? Let’s find out during the inaugural episode of 2GuysTalkingHorror and be sure to tell us what you think!
