Back to the Future (1985) – A Perspective Review

Few films feature power, nostalgia, brilliant acting, and tethers to two more profound entries that build, and build, and shine. The value of Back to the Future isn’t just that it was a movie that came at a time – we all needed a movie like it, but because of the spine it built for moviedom in general. The characters. The “history”. The connective tissue and pace that make the past, and now imperceivable. We can sit and list ALL of the items we talk about inside our original Perspective Review of 1985’s “Back to the Future…” or you can listen to it now. Enjoy the original 2GuysTalking Perspective Review of a true American classic that continues to take us BACK – TO THE FUTURE!

Code of Silence (1985) – A Perspective Review

The sprawling city of Chicago. A bad cop. A dead kid… and Chuck Norris? There’s something magnetic about Chuck Norris. It’s why we can all quote one of a million quotes where Chuck Norris Doesn’t Do Push Ups – He Pushes the World DOWN. The memories of the best Chuck Norris quotes are good but you know what’s better? The memory of my Mom being in a Chuck Norris movie. Back in the early 80’s my Mom was an extra, in the elevated train and news press corps scene inside of The Code of Silence – starring Chuck Norris. It’s time for an incredibly educational Perspective Review, courtesy of WhatCopsWatch.Com…

2GuysTalkingStarWars: Return of the Jedi (1983) Perspective Review

In 1980, we learned the POWER of “The Empire” when it struck back against the Rebel forces for 2 hours and 7 minutes. That power was accompanied by one of the – if not the greatest-paced movies of all time but also a question. That question? When would the franchise return? When would it come back to the silver screen to deliver the NEXT chapter of a story that we were already salivating for? Well, it took three more years to happen but – RETURN. IT. DID. The toasty days of May, 1983, provided us with “Return of the Jedi“. Once again, the characters, the story, the connective tissue and the FORCE – flowed. It’s another piece of fandom in the making for nearly 40 years, but behold! It’s time for the 2GuysTalking: Star Wars Perspective Review of 1983’s “Return of the Jedi“, directed by Richard Marquand.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2013): A Perspective Review

The stripes of red, white and blue conjure images of all kinds – depending on who you are, where you live but more importantly – what kind of comic books you read. The Marvel Comic Universe has become a behemoth, that has so many tendrils, tentacles and details – well, if you stop paying attention for just a brief series of days, you may just be lost in detail oblivion. We now live in a world where television series tie into movies, movies tie to Internet and Blu-ray shorts, and back again to the smaller HD screen – REGULARLY. Captain America: The Winter Solder does this – with definitive skill, with brazen courage, much like that of Cap diving out of the back of a cargo lifter with no parachute. The Action. The Storytelling. The Character Engagement. The World Building. It’s all here inside the second offering of everyone’s favorite thought to be dead but isn’t Super Soldier, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Was this movie as good as the first? Is it a fitting piece into the mosaic that is the MCU?  Strap on your helmet, pull on your red gloves, don your vibranium shield via the magnetic clasps because it’s time for the 2GuysTalking Perspective Review of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, here on the 2GuysSTalking Podcast Network.

Avengers (2012) – A Perspective Review

The concept of a “Superhero Team” had been thought about, drawn up, and shown to human eyes millions of times and satisfied every eye that saw them – on the written comic book page. When you talk about live-action television and feature films well – “Superhero Team” efforts, especially ones worth their salt when it comes to quality, care and polish well – they’re few and far between to be sure. As Marvel’s Cinematic Universe continued to build it’s stand-alone, but still-in-the-family-of-characters collection of hero films, the rumors and whispers of what everyone hoped to be grand was everywhere. The Avengers. While there are many other Superhero Teams that we’ve described and reviewed in Perspective Review, The Avengers change everyone’s perspective when it comes to cash earning power, quality and stackability when it comes to conjuring the comic book page directly to the silver screen. Be sure to listen to our Perspective Review, detailing The Hype, The Money, The Good, The Bad, The Franchise, and ultimately The Rating of Marvel’s Avengers (2012).

The worry, beyond casting Captain America, was how on Earth could we take a strapping (and hopefully talented) actor, toss him into a red, white and blue skin-tight suit, strap a shield to his forearm and not get laughed out of theaters across the planet? The answer? FUNCTION. While many of the things you see are cleary from the realm of comic book realms, Marvel found a talented, strapping actor, they got the suit, shield and patriotism to work, and it really does propel the very FIRST offering for Captain America in the MCU. Curious to see what WE thought were great moments? Curious to understand just what a blockbuster this feature film was? Be sure to listen to our Perspective Review, detailing The Hype, The Money, The Good, The Bad, The Franchise, and ultimately The Rating of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).

Thor (2011) – A Perspective Review

There’s something to be said, when you hear that Hollywood is going to take a Norse God the princess from the STAR WARS prequels, and make a feature film. While originally not a mainstream comic book hero, Thor is one with very interesting storylines, character arcs, and what not too long ago would have been IMPOSSIBLE situations when it comes to film-making. The “Rainbow Bridge?” Right. The “9 Realms where science and magic are the same? Uh, what? Casting someone that can take on the attitude, gravity and indestructible hammer-wielding attitude of a blonde God with a flowing red cape and wing-adorned silver helmet? Get the hell outta’ here. The speed-bumps mounted quickly for this one but was Thor able to pull it off? Were we satiated with this entry inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe? There’s only one way to find out! Be sure to listen to our Perspective Review, detailing The Hype, The Money, The Good, The Bad, The Franchise, and ultimately The Rating of Thor (2011).

The Incredible Hulk (2008) – A Perspective Review

Big characters often require big actors to jump aboard a movie but – what happens when that’s not the case? In fact, what happens when the “star” of the movie will be entirely CGI’d? The answer, in most cases, when so much computer generated art is implemented is often disappointing. Inside 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, the Green Goliath is COMPLETELY CGI. Did it float? Did it help to drive the provided storyline or did it become a piece of the uncrossable uncanny valley so much that we all fell into it? There’s only one way to find out! Be sure to listen to our Perspective Review, detailing The Hype, The Money, The Good, The Bad, The Franchise, and ultimately The Rating of The Incredible Hulk (2008).

Iron Man 2 Composer, John Debney – Under the Hood Interview

One of the most under-emphasizes facets of cinema is effective, complimentary music. The right soundtrack will put you in the right mood and help guide you through the storytelling blow by blow. The WRONG soundtrack will make a feature film effort jarring and blow you away, destroying your cinema-going experience. Recently, we talked to Iron Man 2 Composer, John Debney, who has a long and continued cavalcade of quality featured inside his career’s discography. Take a moment to listen to how he’s not only changed the path of comic book movies on the silver screen but how his other film and television offerings (The Greatest Showman, The Orville, The Jungle Book, Predators, Iron Man 2, Evan Almighty, Sin City, The Passion of the Christ, Elf, Bruce Almighty, The Scorpion King, End of Days, Inspector Gadget, My Favorite Martian and so many more) continue to change the way you “hear” movies of all kinds. This is John Debney – Under the Hood.

Iron Man 2 (2010) – A Perspective Review

The original changed the way we ALL think about “those stupid comic book movies” and served as the first of many cinematic offerings that continue to change what we think of comic book nostalgia. Inside 2010’s Iron Man 2, we revisit the red and gold suit (albeit an altered suit, along with a suitcase suit – ha!) to learn more about a Stark rival, his son, and the US Government’s always-available thirst for more technology to rule the world. Director Jon Favreau and Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr. return in this second installment that we put squarely into the Perspective Review crosshairs! Be sure to listen to our Perspective Review, detailing The Hype, The Money, The Good, The Bad, The Franchise, and ultimately The Rating of Iron Man 2 (2010).
