Choosing the Right Show for Your Healthy Young Athlete...

Choosing the Right Shoe for Your Healthy Young Athlete…

If you aren’t a self-declared shoe geek like me, you may find trying to buy athletic shoes for your young athlete a major chore. It can also be challenging to fight against the pressures of what is the trendy shoe as opposed to what is truly functional. With so many brands and models, you may be left feeling confused and overwhelmed and may not even know where to start.

Well, this is where I come in…

You are probably thinking “is this guy truly someone who knows what he is talking about when it comes to shoes? Isn’t he a sports medicine doctor?” I most certainly am….. but I also have a unique background that most of my colleagues don’t have. I actually sold shoes for 8 years. Started out as a wide eyed shoe salesman at Warehouse Shoes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with some of my buddies when I was in high school. I switched over to work at The Athlete’s Foot in college working at several of their stores in both Madison and Milwaukee. I even continued to work there for the first two years of med school. It was a great job, flexible with the hours (which was really important) and also had some great co-workers. I even was named the franchise’s employee of the year in 1993. But even after I stopped working there I have continued to have a love and passion for athletic shoes. Ask my wife, she will freely admit to you I have a slight obsession. I even had a website about athletic shoes in the early days of the internet called the Al Bundy Society.

So  let’s talk about shoes and some of the things I think will help you make the best choices for your young athlete. We’ll also cover some issues that can contribute to some of the problems I see in the office that may be footwear related and also cover some of the myths and misconceptions about shoes
